Alice Austen House’s official designation as a national site of LGBTQ history

June 20 @ 11:00 am

| Free

We invite you to join us on Tuesday for the formal announcement of Alice Austen House’s official designation as a national site of LGBTQ history.

As part of an initiative the National Park Service launched in 2014, the Alice Austen House’s listing on the National Register of Historic Places has been amended to include LGBTQ history as an area of significance. The amendment was undertaken through the NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project and a grant from the New York State Historic Preservation Office made possible by the National Park Service.

At the announcement event we are delighted to present keynote speaker Joan E. Biren (also known as JEB), an award-winning documentary photographer and filmmaker who has been chronicling the lives of LGBTQ individuals since 1971.

Special thanks to The New York Community Trust for generously supporting this event.
