Event Details

Participants attending the Forest Restoration Workshop experience time outdoors learning about the interrelatedness of a healthy habitat.  By working along with other volunteers this hands-on opportunity helps to restore Staten Island’s jeopardized habitat. The day involves cutting, digging, and pulling invasive plants, removing them to make way for native shrubs, trees, and grasses.  The work is under the guidance of a seasoned Protectors of Pine Oak Woods guide.   Students can receive community service credits.

Meet in the LaTourette Golf Course parking lot northeast of the clubhouse.  By uprooting Japanese barberry, and cut what few woody, twining vines found restoration volunteers help to maintain the habitat that is home to native plants and species.  Protectors will provide gloves, bags, tools and refreshments. Because of the distance, participants will have to assist with carrying tools.  For more information call Brian Smith at (917) 842-6585 or Don Recklies at (718) 768-9036. (Service credit is available.)
