Do you know about the USO? Founded in 1941, the United States Organization (USO) has provided entertainment and services to American servicemembers and their families for decades. Learn about the early days of the USO during segregation, including the first club dedicated to Black service members in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Discover the individual stories of Black women, in particular, who lifted the morale and spirits of service members at USO clubs across the U.S. and around the world. After the program, visit New-York Historical to explore So Ready for Laughter: Bob Hope and World War II to deepen your understanding of the USO. Advanced registration required.
