12 Weeks of Summer! Week 2!

October 28, 2019 By Michelle Yannaco

School is out and summer is full swing! How will you be spending your first official week of summer fun with your family? Here are our ideas, day by day. And don’t forget to check out the S.I. Parent Family Calendar for more great ideas every day!

Thursday, June 28
Go Bowling
Thunderstorms are in the forecast today, so indoor fun it is!
Rabs Country Lanes: Two games of bowling, shoe rental, a slice of pizza or hotdog and a soda for only $10 per kid. For $15 per adult, you can bowl with your kids (includes shoe rental). The special is available seven days a week, from 9am to 6pm, for all kids under 18. Rabs is located at 1600 Hylan Blvd.

Showplace Entertainment Center: One hour of bowling, four shoe rentals, and a pizza pie for just $30. Available Monday through Friday, 12-5pm. Showplace is located at 141 East Service Road.

Friday, June 29
Visit a Museum
Museums are fun AND educational, so they’re a great way to enjoy family time while you avoiding the dreaded summer slide, when kids lose knowledge acquired during the school year.

Saturday, June 30

Sunday, July 1
Go Kayaking
Kayaking is so much fun – and you can do it for free all summer long! Kayak Staten Island offers free kayaking to the public on select Sundays throughout the summer. Children under 18 must be with a parent and you can fill out a waiver form at their website. Kayaking is offered at 850 Page Avenue (in Conference House Park).

You can also try kayaking for free with the National Park Service at Gateway in Great Kills (Hylan Blvd. and Buffalo Street), where you simply show up, sign a waiver, and head out. What a fun addition to your day at the beach! Kids are welcome, but must be with a parent or adult.

Monday, July 2
Catch a Ballgame
See a Staten Island Yankees (now the Pizza Rats) Game at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Tonight’s game is verse the Brooklyn Cyclones (subway series, anyone?) at 7pm.

Tuesday, July 3
See a Movie for a Buck
The $1 Regal Summer Movie Express is back, bringing you family movies for just a dollar on Tuesday & Wednesday mornings at the UA Staten Island Stadium 16 & RPX, 2474 Forest Avenue.

Wednesday, July 5
Travis 4th of July Parade
Happy Independence Day! On Staten Island, the place to be for the patriotic day is in Travis, where one of the oldest, continuously-held Independence Day parades in the country is proudly held each year.

The rain-or-shine ceremony kicks off at noon at the reviewing stand at P.S. 26 at 4108 Victory Blvd, followed by the parade step-off from Showplace Entertainment Center at 141 East Service Road at 12:30pm. All access roads into Travis, including the Victory Blvd exit off Route 440, will be closed at 11:30 a.m.
