January Incredible Kids Awards Recipient

February 4, 2021 By Jeannine Cintron

January Incredible Kids Awards Recipient

Meet the Incredible Kid of January, Elena Borrero! She was selected via voting process on the Staten Island Parent website.

Elena’s whole family is pretty incredible. All three Borrero siblings were nominated by their father, Deric Borrero and uncle, Gavin Siewers, for their acts of kindness and helping those in need. Elena is pictured above (right) with her brother Deric (middle) delivering food to a senior citizen in Staten Island during Covid. Her nomination form said:

“Elena is an honors student at Notre Dame Academy. At the beginning of the pandemic, she and her brother decided to create a youth group called “Staten Island Cares,” which is centered around helping those less-fortunate in their respective Staten Island communities. She and her brother have successfully established free deliveries of groceries for the elderly, having over a dozen scheduled for deliveries each week. In addition to serving our older neighbors, she and her siblings have also funded and coordinated large food drives that have successfully supported over 80 families in-need with food for their families. During the holiday break from school, Elena also hosted a “Toys for Tots” toy drive on Forest Avenue while enlisting the help of some of her friends from NDA. The “Staten Island Cares” group now has over a dozen young adults participating with the help and guidance of Elena and her brother.”

Elena will be featured an upcoming issue of Staten Island Parent and receive a $150 Amazon gift card, courtesy of Staten Island University Hospital.

Staten Island’s Incredible Kids Awards recognizes and honors outstanding children in the community. Nominees have helped others in need, donated time or effort to an important cause, boast impressive achievements at a young age, or simply stand out for their kindness and compassion.

A new child will be honored in Staten Island University Hospital’s Incredible Kids Awards each month until June 2021. To nominate a child, go to siparent-com.go-vip.net/incredible-kids and upload a photo, then explain in detail why he or she deserves to be nominated.

Meet January’s Featured Pediatric Specialists

Staten Island University Hospital’s board-certified pediatric sleep specialists evaluate and treat conditions that may cause your child to suffer from inadequate sleep or breathing problems. Left untreated, these problems may lead to learning and behavioral issues, as well as serious conditions affecting the heart and lungs. Our program is one of the few in New York City that is certified to provide sleep testing on children from birth through the teen years.
