Your Family’s Guide to the 2025 Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks in NYC

Let’s face it, there’s no place like New York City on the 4th of July, and this year’s 49th annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show is set to deliver another night of spectacular lights, music, and family fun. Here’s what NYC parents need to know to make the most of this annual Independence Day tradition.

What’s New This Year

The 2025 fireworks show will once again be set against the iconic backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge and East River. However, this year, more than 80,000 fireworks will be launched from four barges and the bridge itself, making it one of the biggest displays in the country. The 25-minute show will feature over 30 vibrant colors and a mix of dazzling effects. The display is choreographed to an original soundtrack curated by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and James Poyser, blending music from various generations and genres.

Plus, for the first time ever, both towers of the Brooklyn Bridge will be lit up with large-scale projection mapping, turning the bridge into part of the show. This year’s show, hosted by Ariana DeBose, includes 11 new effects, adding variety to the display. Highlights include crown jellyfish, atomic rings, yellow and green sunbursts, strobing lemon cascades, comet fans, and others.

Before the fireworks kick off, you can catch a concert packed with performances from varied artists. The Jonas Brothers will perform some of their well-known pop songs, with Eric Church and Trisha Yearwood adding a touch of country. Lenny Kravitz brings a rock element, while Ava Max and Keke Palmer round out the lineup with pop performances.

Where to Watch

New Yorkers hoping to catch prime views of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks can score free tickets starting Tuesday, July 1, at 8:30 am, when the city will release 100,000 tickets online at july4thtickets.events.nyc on a first-come, first-served basis.

The tickets provide access to designated viewing areas at Brooklyn Bridge Park and The Seaport in Manhattan (Pier 16 and Pier 17). Each person can request up to four tickets for Brooklyn Bridge Park or up to two for The Seaport.

To get a jump on the crowds, the first 2,500 people who text “FIREWORKS” to 917-909-2288 will receive four tickets in advance for Brooklyn Bridge Park.

For those without tickets, the fireworks will still be viewable from select portions of the FDR Drive, with public entry points at Montgomery Street and Madison Street, Robert F. Wagner Sr. Place and the Brooklyn Bridge ramp, as well as Broad Street and Water Street. An ADA-accessible viewing area will be available at Murray Bergtraum Field, accessible via Pike Street and Cherry Street.

Watching from home is a great way to enjoy the celebration, especially if you’ve got little ones who need to get to bed early. If you’d rather stay home, you can watch the full show live on NBC, from 8 to 10 pm.

Tips for Going

If you’re bringing little ones to enjoy the fireworks in person, be sure to pack ear protection because fireworks displays can be surprisingly loud, especially for sensitive young ears. Even older kids (and some adults!) might appreciate the extra comfort.

Plan to arrive early to find a good viewing spot. Leave the blankets at home and bring a light sweater instead, in case the waterfront breeze picks up after sunset. Be aware that lawn chairs, blankets, backpacks, and other large bags are not permitted in public viewing areas for security reasons. Also note that viewers may be searched by the NYPD, and all viewing locations are subject to change at their discretion.
