Historic Richmond Town: Hosting Locally Grown Contest

Historic Richmond Town is once again celebrating Staten Island’s rich agricultural traditions with its annual Locally Grown Contest, proudly sponsored by Clark’s Florist. Open to participants of all ages, the contest highlights the very best of Staten Island-grown produce and honors the community’s dedication to gardening and fresh, homegrown food.

Registration and Entry Details

Advanced registration is required for all participants and will close at 12 pm on August 29th. Contest entries must be delivered to the Historic Richmond Town Visitor Center, with drop-off taking place on August 28th –29th, from 10 am to 5 pm. Upon arrival, participants are asked to walk their produce to the courthouse via St. Patrick’s Place and Center Street, following the posted signs to the designated drop-off room.

Rules and Judging

All entries must be grown by the exhibitor, with no artificial or synthetic foliage permitted. When possible, participants are encouraged to include notes on the variety of their produce. A panel of professional judges will carefully evaluate each entry, awarding ribbons in every class. While produce of many kinds is welcomed, trees, shrubs, and potted plants are not accepted in the competition.
