Vroom, vroom…Get ready to start your engines! If you have a kiddo who loves cars, here’s some news: The 9th Annual New Dorp Car and Jeep Show on Staten Island is rolling into town on Sunday, June 2nd, at 9 am! It’s said to be the biggest car show in the borough, with cars coming in from cities and towns throughout the tri-state area.

The show will be at New Dorp High School, and it benefits the school’s football team. It’ll feature more than 250 makes and models of cars, including, but not limited to:

  • Cadillacs
  • Mustangs
  • Corvettes
  • Camaros
  • Jeeps

Just picture yourself walking through a parking lot full of life-size Matchbox cars. How cool is that?

“The cars go around the whole school. It gives people a chance to walk around and see them all,” Chris Haynes, founder and organizer of the event, said.

What to Expect at the 8th Annual New Dorp Car and Jeep Show on Staten Island

The amazing array of hot rods steal the show of course, but there’s plenty of other fun to be had. Another major highlight of the morning-afternoon event is the Food Truck Festival, sure to delight foodies of all ages and taste buds. Dozens of delicious food truck options will be available, from steak to empanadas to BBQ and more. Perfect summer food for soon-to-be summer weather! (And perhaps a visit to the show is a great way to enjoy an early Father’s Day family outing?)

Other activities at this fun car and jeep show on Staten Island include:

  • Live music from the band, American Cover Story
  • DJ music from Joe Nose
  • A vendor market selling car accessories and other items
  • A dog-grooming station (Bring your pup!)
  • Over 100 trophies and awards will be given out, including the Sal Somma Memorial Award for Best in Show and the Jerome O’Donovan Memorial Award.
  • Awards for Veterans Choice, FDNY Choice, NYPD Choice, Ladies Choice, Kids Choice, and more. There’s even an award for Best Paint Job!

Speaking of trophies, Haynes doesn’t give out just any ol’ award. Each trophy is custom-designed into a mini metal masterpiece. Some are even artistically designed using spare car parts like gears and spark plugs. The trophy lineup is a big draw and part of the reason why car owners enjoy participating in the show, Haynes said.

“I give away the most unique trophies for a car show on Staten Island. They’re hand-built out of car parts. My trophies go above and beyond. I go to a guy in Pennsylvania, I tell him what I want, he designs them and then I just go pick them up,” Haynes said. “Whatever he builds, I approve it. I tell him to just use his imagination.”
