Event Details

Come welcome the Year of the Ox at Snug Harbor’s virtual Chinese New Year Celebration!
Together at home, your family will enjoy treats, tales, and traditional crafts as part of one of the biggest cultural celebrations in the world.
WHEN: February 14 | 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
ADMISSION: $10 (Snug Harbor Members: $8)
REGISTER HERE

With the admission price, you’ll receive a package of festive materials, which you can pick up from Snug Harbor. These include celebratory decorations, crafting materials, supplies for paper arts, painting, and mask-making, and a how-to sheet. Your family can work with these alongside common items in your home to create a festive Chinese New Year celebration for your household!

Families with children can participate in:

Storytelling: Listen to the legend of Nien, hear about the Chinese zodiac, learn the many ways we celebrate the 15 days of the Chinese New Year, and discover the traits of 2021’s Ox.

Crafts: Kids can make a lion’s head to ward off evil spirits, create a hong bao envelope to give and receive special treats, and practice writing chun lian and fu dao with Chinese characters.

Parade: Families can join the parade from their own home with homemade percussion to scare off evil spirits.

Adults without kids can also participate in this immersive cultural celebration. With Ben Ng, our educator in Chinese calligraphy, you’ll enjoy more grown-up artistic activities like ink wash painting and chun lian writing.

Wear red and gold when you celebrate Chinese New Year with us! We’ll see you soon. Gung hay fat choy!
