Kids Thrive Early at Staten Island Academy Day Camp
When you think of summer camp, you think of fun. That’s usually why parents send their kids to camp – to have a blast. There are a myriad of reasons to sign your child up for camp, especially if they are very young. Sending your child to a structured camp program will help them develop socially, emotionally, and academically. It will also provide routine, build confidence, independence, and support cognitive growth, which will make the transition to school smoother.
Staten Island Academy Day Camp recognizes the importance of these benefits, and takes extra care to ensure that all children thrive and are ready to tackle the upcoming school year. With a fun-filled schedule of activities, learning and fun, the Academy’s beautiful 12-acre campus comes alive with the promise of a great summer.
Program Director Chris Bruno says you can tell when a child has attended Staten Island Academy Day Camp. “We see our campers ahead of the curve and they are more than ready for the school day,” he says. “The camp day is one that is active. Campers participate in a variety of activities that allow them to learn, play, develop and grow each and every day at day camp. I truly believe that summer camp is a vital component to a child’s development. My own children all started in the program when they were 3 years old and by summer’s end their development socially, emotionally and academically was clear.”
Campers at Staten Island Academy Day Camp are busy, even the youngest who are three years old. They swim daily, have physical education every day, and enjoy a variety of rotating activities like art, dance, science and Legos during the week. Very young campers are placed in small groups (18–20 children) with a 1:6 staff ratio, led by experienced early-childhood teachers. Three-year-olds can attend half-day or full-day programs; meanwhile four- and five-year-olds attend full day.
The expansive campus’s indoor spaces include air-conditioned classrooms, a theater, an art room, an innovation lab, a science room, a gymnasium, and a game room. The outdoor spaces feature soccer, baseball, and softball fields, a Gaga pit, and two outdoor swimming pools. Theme weeks, like Scavenger Hunt Week and Carnival Week, keep the excitement going all summer long and keep children engaged.
Staten Island Academy Day Camp offers summer programs for kids from three years old up to ninth grade. Open House events are scheduled for Saturday, March 14, and Sunday, April 12, 10am to 2pm, where families can meet potential counselors and explore the campus. Registration opens in January as early bird pricing, and early registration is encouraged due to group size caps. Go to statenislandacademy.org/summer/day-camp to learn more.
