NYC Lantern Festival Returns to Snug Harbor Oct. 29 and Kids Will Love It

NYC Lantern Festival Returns to Snug Harbor Oct. 29 and Kids Will Love It

This holiday season will be merry and bright with the return of the NYC Winter Lantern Festival! It’s coming back to Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden next month.

The NYC lantern festival’s theme this year is Escape. It features a breathtaking 8-acre light installation with brilliant displays of flowers, an open sky, and deep-sea adventures. The experience is designed to bring the visitor into a world of color and wonder while leaving behind stress and worry.

The festival runs Oct. 29-Jan. 9, 2022, Friday-Sunday, 4:30-9:30pm. At the peak of the holiday season, the NYC lantern festival will be open every night from Dec. 24-Jan. 2, 2022.

The NYC Winter Lantern Festival first premiered at Snug Harbor, located at 1000 Richmond Terrace, in 2018, followed by another successful run in 2019. However, last year’s festival was cancelled due to the pandemic. But Snug Harbor staff members are looking forward to hosting it again.

“We are incredibly excited to once again host the NYC Winter Lantern Festival on our grounds,” said Martha Neighbors, interim president and CEO of Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden. “This event has brought so much joy and inspiration to our Staten Island community, and we hope to see everyone back at Snug Harbor this year to enjoy another beautiful display.”

Tickets are on sale now, starting at $24.99 for adults and $16.99 for children ages 3-12. In celebration of the festival’s return, a special 20-percent discount is available through Oct. 15.

“During the first two years of the festival, we saw how much joy it brought to the residents of Staten Island,” said Haokun Liu, producer of the festival. “We are delighted to be back this year.”

Additional activities include DJ music, projection mapping, food vendors, and more.
