Pac-Man. His wife Ms. Pac-Man. Donkey Kong and Frogger. These are all games many of us remember as a kid. Embrace your inner 80’s child by visiting one of these fun, family-friendly retro arcades in Staten Island and nearby NJ for kids and families to enjoy. We included some honorable mentions in Manhattan and Brooklyn, too. They’re sure to put a new spin on classic family game time!

The Hop Shoppe

This Stapleton gastropub is known for its extensive food and beer menu and lots of fun events. But there’s also a cool vintage arcade on site that’s open every day and great for all ages to enjoy. 

Fun Station

This island entertainment destination features classic arcade games including pinball, the beautiful Ms. Pac-Man, Street Fighter and more. Families can also play laser tag, ride bumper cars, and enjoy batting cages and basketball court rentals.

This one is more for the younger kids. The arcade here features high-tech video games, skill games and everything in between for kids of every age and interest to enjoy.

Enjoy a massive arcade, virtual reality and watch sports at this popular dining and entertainment spot located at the Staten Island Mall.

There are lots of retro arcades in Staten Island and nearby in NJ, including this one in Morristown, NJ. It features Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Q*bert, pinball and 110 other retro arcade games and pinball machines. There’s a huge collection of classic games, pinball machines and consoles for everyone in the family to enjoy. 

Billy’s Midway Arcade

You’ll feel like you’re stepping into a time machine at this arcade. It features classic arcade games spanning over 50 years, from 1954-2012. Fun fact: All of the games here were locally acquired by Billy and his wife Allyson. It all began with a Ms. Pac-Man they received as a wedding present, and is now one of over 100 games at the arcade today.

The Break

Open in Dunellen since 1973, the gaming spot offers video games, billiards, food and more fun for the whole family.  

Go Play Retro Arcade

Now you have another reason to visit the Jersey Shore. This retro arcade features a variety of classic games including Skee-Toss, Grand Prix, Big Bass Wheel, Bigfoot Crush and more. The 80s VIP Suite is a time capsule full of 80s and 90s authentic arcade cabinets including Nintendo, pool and lots of movie memorabilia of the time period. 

Lucky Leo’s

Open since 1953, Lucky Leo’s is another Jersey Shore game location for families to enjoy. 

Silverball Museum Arcade

This retro arcade is a tribute to pinball and video game history. Like several other arcades on this list, Silverball Museum Arcade is located at the Jersey Shore and is a great way to experience a piece of Americana. 

Retro Arcades in Brooklyn 

Game Room in Industry City

Hours: Friday-Sunday with two available sessions: 12-2:30pm and 3-5:30pm.
Head to Industry City, a creative hub in Brooklyn, to enjoy a family-friendly game room full of popular arcade games including skee ball and ping pong. You can even order food from the Frying Pan across the courtyard and have it delivered right to you. 

Barcade

While you do have to be 21 or older to come in, Barcade does have designated family days. This Brooklyn game spot features over 50 classic arcade and pinball games. Most of them are from the early 80s into the 90s, but there are a few on site from the 70s, too. Enjoy Asteroids, Berzerk, Frogger, Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, R.B.I. Baseball and more. 

Retro Arcades in Manhattan 

Bowlero Chelsea Piers

While Bowlero isn’t a retro arcade in-and-of itself, families can still play lots of classic games here, including Pac-Man and Mario Kart. When you’re done gaming, check out the highlight of Bowlero…bowling! It features 40 bowling lanes, black lights, soft lounge seats and huge video walls that play sports, music videos and family films. 

Chinatown Fair Family Fun Center

Play some modern classics here, including Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero. There’s also Mario Kart, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Space Invaders Frenzy and more.
