Summer is a great time to see a movie outside in the fresh air. There are many drive-in and outdoor movies in Staten Island and New Jersey for families to enjoy. From movies at night under the stars to drive-in shows at the Jersey Shore, there are so many ways to take in an outdoor summer flick. Browse our guide to drive-in and outdoor movies on Staten Island and New Jersey that will add lots of family fun to your summer itinerary.

Drive-In and Outdoor Movies in Staten Island

Bring beach chairs or blankets to watch movies under the stars in your local park. The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and NYC Parks bring film screenings to public parks and playgrounds across all five boroughs throughout the summer, including Staten Island. Movies start at 8:30pm. The schedule:

  • June 24: Spider-Man No Way Home (Lemon Creek Park at Bayview Avenue and Johnston Terrace)
  • June 25: Sing 2 (Faber Park Recreation Center at 2175 Richmond Terr.)

National Lighthouse Museum On the Waterfront

The National Lighthouse Museum in St. George will bring back its waterfront film series on Staten Island. All screenings are on Friday nights, starting at 5pm. The schedule includes:

  • July 8: Captains Courageous
  • July 15: The Forgiven
  • July 22: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea 
  • July 29: Summer of Soul

Cinema Sotto Le Stelle – Outdoor Italian Film Festival

The Outdoor Italian Film Festival returns this year to Casa Belvedere. Kicking off in July this summer, enjoy a night out under the stars to experience fine Italian films with English subtitles. Movies are screened behind the mansion with a majestic harbor view. Movies are on Tuesdays at 8pm near sunset.

Summers at the Jersey Shore are fun, and they’re even better with a drive-in movie! Take a break from the beach for a bit, and check out a family flick in Barnegat. All movies begin at dusk. The schedule: 

  • June 28: How to Train Your Dragon

  • July 26: American Graffiti
  • Aug. 9: Back to the Future
  • Aug. 23: Encanto
  • Sept. 17: Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl
  • Oct. 22: Hocus Pocus (lawn movie 6pm on the Edwards School Football Field

There is so much to do in Central New Jersey, from the Bridgewater Commons shopping center to exciting cafes and restaurants and also…a drive-in experience in the park! Head to Billian Legion Park to round out your family fun day in New Jersey with an outdoor movie under the stars. The next movie screening is Encanto on July 16. Gates open at 7:30pm, and the movie starts between 8:30-8:50pm.

Cost: $12.50, plus tax and fee; free for children ages 3 and younger
This popular drive-in was once the only one in New Jersey. Movies here are always a double feature, sometimes a triple feature! The drive-in is currently open on weekends, and updated movie features can be found on its Facebook page. Thursday hours are added dependent upon demand. 

Freehold Movie Night
