The event is being co-chaired by Rosanne Burrell and Joe Conte on behalf of the National Lighthouse Museum. Rosanne weighed in on the joy of this event, stating, “The Lighthouse hunt is a great way to visit and learn about the 10 lighthouses from St.George to Tottenville. This is a great day to spend with family and friends, learning about lighthouse history and Staten Island.”
Participants can begin their journey at either the National Lighthouse Museum in St. George or the historic Conference House in Tottenville. From there, the hunt takes explorers—whether on foot, bike, motorcycle, or bus—to ten fascinating on- and off-shore lighthouses scattered throughout the island.
This fun event is designed for couples, families, and groups of all kinds; the event offers a fun and educational way to experience Staten Island’s rich nautical heritage while enjoying a day outdoors.
Organizers encourage attendees to bring their cameras, curiosity, and sense of adventure as they uncover the stories behind each lighthouse and the role they’ve played in guiding ships to safety over the years.
The Great Staten Island Lighthouse Hunt invites participants to start their journey between 10 am and 11 am at either the National Lighthouse Museum or the Conference House and finish by 4 pm. Participants follow a self-guided map to various lighthouse sites, taking selfies or group photos to earn stickers at each location.

The event includes a tote bag with maps, commemorative stamps, and giveaways, plus a participation ribbon. It’s a fun, family-friendly way to explore Staten Island’s lighthouse history, with suggested teams of two or three and encouragement to share photos on social media by tagging @NationalLighthouseMuseum!
